As the Ass’t. Director of Aviation for SJC, John Aitken manages the administrative
functions of the Airport Director’s Office as well as the five Airport
divisions: operations, facilities, finance, planning & development, and business
development. He is currently leading senior staff in a redesign of both the Airport’s
strategic plan and information technology plan. John has been with SJC since
1993. Since that time, he played a key role on the management team in designing,
building and operating the Airport’s $1.3B modernization of two terminals
completed in 2010.
John earned a bachelor’s degree in aviation management from Florida Institute
of Technology, and an MBA in aviation management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University based in Daytona Beach, Florida. John is also an accredited airport
executive through the American Association of Airport Executives. He is certified
by the Federal Aviation Administration both as a commercial pilot and certified
flight instructor in single- and multi-engine instrument aircraft.
His presentation will focus on the important air service development successes
that SJC has achieved over the past few years and what this means for Silicon
Valley travelers. He also will describe SJC’s ongoing efforts to attract
more airlines and destinations that Silicon Valley businesses and residents are
requesting by continuing to upgrade technology and services for customers and
keeping costs low for airlines.

Formal activities begin with the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of God Bless America. Then we have a delicious lunch. After lunch comes the introduction of guests and the induction of any new members. Then our own choral group, the Trail Birds lead us in singing several old favorites. They cap this with an amusing musical introduction written each month for the day's speaker. These presentations, always excellent, run 35 - 45 minutes, including Q&A, and meetings adjourn by 1:30 to 1:45 pm..
