Chairman: Ian Thomson
A hiking group
has been started in February 2004 as an added, regular activity of SIR, Branch
35. It is our intent to begin hiking at least once each month and to see what
the group wants to establish as its regular activity schedule with frequency
of hikes per month and length of hikes to be set by the group. Each hike will
be announced in advance either in the Trail Tips Newsletter, telephone and/or
by e-mail and will be within a one-hour drive of our homes; car-pools are encouraged.
We will hike in our local parks and open space on trails of 4 to 10 miles in length, and we welcome wives and/or significant others to join in the hikes. The group will meet at designated trailheads at 9:30 a.m. and will eat lunch (or have a snack) on the trail. The pace should be moderate, and we will encourage members of the group to share their knowledge of flowers, plants, birds, trees, etc.
Please wear hiking boots (providing ankle support), layered clothing appropriate for the weather and always carry water. Experienced hikers and new hikers are all welcome to join the group.
