Chairman: Bob Garten
Golf is
one of the most popular activities of Mission Trail SIR Branch #35 members. We
are members of the Northern California Golf Association and we play
to a handicap. Golfers of all handicaps are welcome and have an equal
chance to win in our tournaments. You can count on having a good
time with a friendly group of men who enjoy this sport.
Many of our regular golfers pitch in to act as Tournament Conductors for
our more than 50 tournaments each year. Other golfers contribute their
time by organizing tournaments, signing up players at our monthly SIR
meeting and providing all the materials and follow-ups for each tournament. Some
of the contributors are listed below:
• Golf Chairman: Bob Garten
• Assistant Golf Chairmen: Ron Grace & Dave Scott
• NCGA Handicap Chairman: Dave Scott, Assistant: Ron Nakamoto
• Tournament Scheduler: George Cooke
• Results Coordinator: Jim Schlatter
• Prize Distributors: David Squellati & Joe MacIntosh
• Tournament Chairmen: Varies by tournament see schedule on the link below.
• Treasurer: Jim Schlatter
• Golf Accountant: Ron Grace
• Secretary: Paul Scherer
• Tee Reservations: John Gerich

The first Big Sir in the charter year 1971 was Hal Orion. We have an honorary "Orion
Golf Tournament" each year. The winner's name is inscribed on an attractive
plaque that he retains for a year, and then passes on to the next year's
champion. This is but one of several exciting and enjoyable tournaments with
a variety of formats. Four to six tournaments a month are available to members,
depending on the time of year and the weather. Tournaments are held on over
30 beautiful and challenging courses within driving distance of the
Bay area. As you can see on the schedule at the link below tournaments
are scheduled at Aptos Seascape, Shoreline, Pajaro Valley, San Ramon, Santa Clara,
Poppy Ridge, Poppy Hills, Eagle Ridge and Ridgemark, to name a few.
We also hold an annual golfer's banquet for golfers and spouses and friends
with awards for "Golfer of the Year," "Most Improved Golfer, "Hole-in-One," and
various fun awards. In 2007 the banquet was attended by over 90 people.
