PC Meeting
Wednesday
October 8, 2003
As most of you know the spam and virus/worm problems are just getting
worse. Jim Dinkey has seen it first hand as machines come in for
repair. He has offered to speak again and present solutions for
protecting yourself.
Jim will discuss the following:
The underlying problem is that the 60% of the computers out in
the real world have not been modified in any way from the way they
came out of the box. That is where all of the zombies come from. The
real subject is how to protect yourself in a hostile environment.
There is one setup for broadband and another for dialup.
There is a procedure for controlling spam which bounces against
a world-wide database.
There are also ways to assure that web-scraping robots do not add
your name to the millions of spam lists.
And finally, a Q & A session will be provided. |
