FROM THE HELM

Welcome CS owners and Happy New Year! We had an excellent response from the note in the Aug. 96. issue of Practical Sailor. A note of thanks to Daniel Spurr, editor of Practical Sailor for that print.

The response was much greater than expected and very gratifying to hear from so many enthusiastic CS owners. Many owners want to chat and were seeking anything from general information to specific solutions to their boat problems. So we decided to form an owners association and let all these sailors get together and do their thing.

With the computer age at hand, it makes it easy to

Welcome CS Owners

reach out and touch someone.

The enclosed membership list shows how far the CS clan has spread across North America. We initiated a $5. US dollars membership fee [REVISED 1998 TO $20] to cover materials, mailings and the time to organize everything together and send it out. With the international banking as it is, we had to ask our Canadian friends to either pay in US currency or US Money Order/Check.

We've been in touch with the C&C owners association via their Web Page searching for information of rumors that Paul (CS36 Spindrift) heard from a C&C rep. about CS starting up again. They informed us they hadn't heard any such fortunate news of that nature, but wished us luck with our new organization. They said like themselves this is an extremely satisfying effort, and the shared boat information is invaluable. They closed their note to us, (while waiting for the group to form) "in the meantime we'll be waiting for you at the windward mark," and wished us all happy sailing.

WE'LL GO FIRST !!

We started sailing in 1975 and previously owned a Tanzer 22 'and then a Tartan 30'. In between these two boats, Anton clipped a boat review article from the Dec.'82. issue of Yachting, magazine about a CS33 on the Chesapeake Bay owned by a Dr. Luis Schut. This article was filed away after purchasing the Tartan which we had owned for seven years. The search for the next perfect boat was tuff. It took us five years to find one to meet both our needs. A quest that lead us all over the New York and New Jersey areas on weekends, and all of southern New England.

Finally after seasons as crew we decided we must get our own boat. We started a marathon weekend starting from New York

to Massachusetts boat hunting. When a broker from
Rock Hall, MD. called about a boat we really must see. Sunday we drove 250 + miles to see this boat, and only after 10 minutes of going over it we knew ... this was it.! After the deal was done we came to learn this was the boat featured in Yachting 12 yrs. ago that we had clipped out and saved. It was Dr.Schut's
boat as the name on the sail bags confirmed. We felt this boat was really meant for us.

We had an interesting trip sailing her home to the south shore of Long Island, NY (that's a whole other story) where she's now behind our home.
